Chichester MP Visits

The MP for Chichester, Jess Brown-Fuller came to visit and learn about the role of Plant Heritage and the National Collections, in the work of preserving wild and cultivated species and hybrids for future generations. These living genetic libraries are more important now more than ever to protect ,due to lifestyle changes and climate change.

She unveiled a new plaque to show the work of collections in preserving over 100,000 plants in over 750 collections Nationally of which 39 of which are in Sussex. Now one of the largest group collections globally.

The plaques have been given in the run up to Plant Heritages 50th year in 2028 when there will be celebrations, the local one being at Plumpton College in Mar 28.

Discussions on wider issues such as planning, food and water security also took place, these of which Jess is already aware of and has been highlighting further up the line. Creating a drive for growth, in a sustainable way for Sussex Growers to protect food and water security is important for the future.

Many thanks to Jess for taking time out and learning about National Collections.
